VIN Read Failure
Sometimes, AutoMind isn’t able to read your vehicle’s VIN — that’s the Vehicle Identification Number used to identify your car.
This is common with some makes — for example, many Nissan models don’t allow VIN access through diagnostic tools.
Don’t worry — when this happens, you’ll see a screen with three simple options:
? Enter the VIN manually — if you know it, we’ll try to decode it automatically and build your vehicle profile.
? Create a profile without the VIN — fill out the vehicle details yourself starting with a blank profile
? Select an existing profile — ideal if you’ve connected a vehicle previously and don’t want to create duplicate profiles.
If you choose to enter the VIN manually and we can’t decode it, we’ll still save it and let you complete the profile yourself.
? If you were expecting the VIN to be read correctly, it’s a good idea to double-check that the ignition is fully on — many failed VIN reads happen because the engine ECU hasn’t fully woken up. It’s also a good idea to start the engine, then try again.
Alternatively, return to the Main Menu, disconnect and reconnect the dongle, and start the connection process again.
