Fault Code Reading
There are 2 ways you will reach the AutoMind fault code scanning step of diagnosis reporting. The first is through the Guided by AutoMind solution after you’ve completed the vehicle profile connection. The second is by selecting the Engine Diagnostic and Reporting from the main menu – available after manually setting up through the alternative Vehicle Connection option.
Before proceeding, you’ll be asked to ensure the ignition is on.
NOTE: If you’ve previously had vehicle connection problems and had to try different ignition options use the one that worked. This ensures you’ll have the engine computer awake so that it can supply any fault code data.
Once you’re satisfied the vehicle is ready for communication, select continue to proceed.
You will then be presented with the fault code reading screen, and the system will automatically start communicating with the vehicle.
Upon completion, any codes in the engine computer will be displayed.
Most codes will include a basic technical reference.
To decipher these codes into plain English, find out if it’s safe to continue your journey, what the likely causes of the faults are, and how a mechanic should go about further diagnosing them, use the PURCHASE A REPORT button.
What if there are no fault codes? Well, if you have symptoms you can explain, our AI mechanic can still assist you.
The final step to purchasing a report is a question box where you’ll be asked to explain any symptoms. This can include what you’re experiencing with the vehicle and any messages or warning lights seen on the dashboard. Then, when processing your diagnosis, the AI mechanic will take into account the vehicle profiles and focus the report content based on the additional details supplied.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If you have an engine management light, or other warnings on the dashboard, but AutoMind reports no codes found, there are several reasons this may occur:-
- The fault codes are no longer active – some manufacturers do not supply fault codes via OBDii communication unless they are active at the time of the code read.
- The codes are not directly engine-related. There are lots of different computers that control and monitor your vehicle, it could be that the fault is in a non-engine component, therefore, it cannot be reported.
- Finally, and least likely, AutoMind was unable to retrieve the faults due to lost connection. Usually, this would have already been reported to you in the app.
If you suspect the app is at fault, we recommend turning the ignition off, closing the app, disconnecting the dongle, then restarting the app and follow the instructions to try again.
