Fault Code Clearing

Before we go into detail about how to clear fault codes, we must make it clear that this function is intended for advanced users only.  The function is used at your own risk, and AutoMind will not be liable for any misuse.

The purpose of fault codes registering on a vehicles engine computer, and any subsequent restricted performance or limp mode function, is to protect the vehicle from further damage.

It is therefore not advisable to delete fault codes unless you understand the codes, and have inspected and repaired the relevant components.

If you still wish to delete fault codes ensure you have first purchased a diagnostic report so that you have a record and details of the faults should you need to refer back to them.

Then, ensure the ignition is on.
I recommend starting the engine – switching it off and turning the ignition on again just to ensure the engine computer is fully awake, then select the Clear Fault Code button.

The command to clear fault codes will be delivered to the engine computer. Do not be alarmed if you receive a message stating a failure to clear codes, as some vehicles are unable to confirm this process.

The correct way to understand if a fault code has been cleared is to repeat the fault code diagnosis.

If fault codes are still present, either the codes are unable to be cleared until a professional diagnostic tool is used to reset the related systems, or the vehicle requires repairs before the codes will clear.
